Telanganas first home minister Nayani Narshimha Reddy dies of post-COVID complications

Hyderabad:Hyderabad: Telangana first home minister Nayani Narshimha Reddy passed away after battling post-COVID complications on Thursday. He was 76.

He was currently a Member of the Legislative Council.

He was tested positive for COVID 19 on September 28. Though he was later tested negative, he was admitted to Apollo Hospital after developing post-Covid complications.

"Shri Nayini Narsimha Reddy Garu 76 age passed away at 12.25 am. He was admitted a week ago for post Covid complications with extensive lung damage," said Apollo Hospital in it's statement.

After the formation of Telangana State in 2014, he took charge of the Home Ministry. Later he also held different portfolios including Prisons, Fire Services, Sainik Welfare, Labour, and Employment until 2018.



A three-time MLA from Musheerabad Constituency, he was a Cabinet Minister of Technical Education in YS Rajashakekar Reddy's Cabinet from 2005 to 2008 in Government of Andhra Pradesh. He started his career as a trade union leader and later joined the Janta Party.



He joined Telangana Rashtra Samithi after the present chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao started agitation for a separate state in 2001. He was also the advisor for VST Labour Union Industries.

His last rites will be held with full state honours.
