Ten booked for offering namaz at a masjid amid lockdown in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Even as the lockdown is still in place and likely to be extended, prohibiting social gathering. Ten persons have been booked for offering namaz at a masjid on April 8th. Defying the restriction orders, a group of 10 including a nine-year-old gathered at a mosque in Bachupally of Cyberabad Police limits and offered Namaz on Wednesday. Since the gathering violates the lockdown orders, Bachupally police registered a case against them including the imams of the mosque, the latter were arrested.

According to Cyberabad police, the ten persons , all residents of Nizampet village had gathered in a mosque located at Indiramma Phase II . Acting on a tip off , police teams reached the spot while they were offering namaz. However on seeing the cops , few among the ten tried to escape, they fled to the neighboring colony. However, the Bachupally police managed to nab one of them, on Wednesday.

During inquiry , it was found that, Mohammed Ghouse, 25, Shaikh Usman, 56, Sharifuddin, 50 and both Imams of the mosque Nihal, 23 and Jesmoddin,27 and two more persons were present at the mosque. Accompanying them were three minors aged 9, 15 and 17. Evidence found that besides defying the lockdown orders, the ten did not follow social distancing.

Bachupally police of Cyberabad Commissionerate, registered a case against the group under sections 188 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) 269 (Whoever unlawfully or negligently does any act) , 270 (Malignant act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life) 271 (Disobedience to quarantine rule) and 336 (Act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the IPC and also section 3 of the Epidemic Diseases Act.

Earlier a pastor was booked in Hyderabad for holding church service on a Sunday. The police has time and again advised religious leaders to encourage people to pray at home following the Coronavirus outbreak in Telangana.
