Tension grips AP village as relatives spar over shifting of 15-month-old baby to COVID hospital

Kurnool: Tension gripped Joharapuram village under Aspari mandal, in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh, when a 15-month-old baby tested COVID-19 positive. The parents and relatives of the girl were however not willing to send the girl to COVID-19 hospital and entered into heated arguments with the police and revenue officials.

However, some residents of the village staged a protest demanding the police and revenue officials shift the girl to a hospital immediately. They said otherwise they will leave the village. Tension gripped the village.

Sources said that one person, who returned from the congregation at Markaz Nizamuddin, Delhi, contacted the girl. Though the girl was tested COVID-19 negative, she was quarantined for 14 days. A few days back, the girl returned to her hometown.

But, interestingly, the medical and health department officials realized that the girl tested positive and they sent a team comprising, police, revenue and medical staff to the village to shift the girl to hospital.

The parents and relatives of the girl entered into arguments with the police and medical personnel and refused to allow shifting of the girl to hospital. Despite repeated appeals from the police and revenue officials, the family members ignored them citing various reasons. On the other end, the locals in the village raised voice against the police and medical staff for failing to shift the girl to hospital.

The Kurnool district administration deployed additional police personnel to the village to convince the family members of the girl.

Sources said that the 15-month-old girl has become the youngest person to be infected by the coronavirus in Andhra Pradesh.
