Tension in Srikakulam over death of pregnant woman

Tension prevailed at the Primary Health Centre, Chapara under Meliaputti Mandal in Srikakulam district on Wednesday morning, as family members of a pregnant woman, who had allegedly died due to medical negligence, staged a demonstration and blocked roads at Chapara.

The family is demanding compensation and action against the errant doctors.

B. Krishnaveni, 25, a native of Savara Banapuram village, was admitted to the Chapara PHC on Tuesday. Doctors at the PHC waited for the woman to begin labor pains up to Tuesday evening. When the woman did not have labour pains, they performed a caesarean. Krishnaveni died in on Wednesday after delivering a dead baby.

Family members and relatives of the woman allege that Krishnaveni died due to the negligence of the doctors. They staged a protest with the dead infant and Krishnaveni, demanding justice and action against the doctors.

The doctors claimed that there was no negligence on their part. They said, “The pregnant woman did not have any labour pains on Tuesday evening, after which she suddenly died.” Villagers have blocked the road with the dead bodies. Police and other officials rushed to the spot to pacify the agitated family.
