Three dead, three injured after SUV hits stationary truck on NH-16 in Srikakulam

Srikakulam, August 2nd:

In a ghastly road accident, three people died on the spot as a Mahindra Scorpio SUV rammed into a stationary truck from behind at high speed on NH-16. Three others were also injured in the accident that took place near Jalantrakota Junction under Kanchili police station limits in Srikakulam district.

Officials at the Kanchili police station said that the incident took place in between 4.45 am and 5 am on August 2nd, Sunday, when the SUV was heading from Odisha to Vizag city.

Preliminary investigations into the incident have revealed that the driver of the SUV lost control over the vehicle due to over speeding and drowsiness. The vehicle then hit a goods and carrier truck parked on the road side.

The impact of the collision was so high that the SUV was left in shambles with its front portion fully damaged in the incident.

The accident led to the instant death of three people, including a woman. Three more persons suffered injuries. The rescue teams struggled over thirty minutes to retrieve the trapped bodies and injured persons in the incident.

The injured persons have been shifted to the government hospital at Kanchili Town where their condition is said to be stable.

The police are yet to establish the identity of the deceased. However, the police said that the deceased and injured in the accident belonged to Vizag district. The police are also suspecting that the victims in the road accident were relatives of the one of the deceased in the Saturday's crane collapsed mishap at Hindustan Shipyard Limited in Vizag city.

A case has been registered, and the investigation is on to establish the identity of the deceased.
