Three Maoists, including a woman, surrender in Andhra Pradesh.

Visakhapatnam: Three Maoists, including a woman, carrying cash rewards on their heads and belonging to the Galikonda Area Committee of the banned CPI (Maoist) surrendered before the Vizag Rural police Chief Attada Babujee on Thursday.

The surrendered Maoists were identified as 29-year-old Area Committee Member Rank Vanthala Ramu alias Birusu alias Bangaraju of Dabhalapadu area of Odisha, Pangi Lakshman of Vizag Agency and Gollori Devi alias Jyothi of Odisha.

The police said that Ramu was carrying a reward of Rs 4 lakh while Lakshman and Devi were carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh each on their heads.

Attada Babujee said that Ramu joined in the outfit as Militia Members in 2009 and rose to the ACM rank rebel. Carrying a Self-Loaded Rifle (SLR) weapon while in the outfit, Ramu was involved in many offences, including five murder cases, two land mine blasts, and three exchange of fire with police, famine raids and few others.

Lakshman had joined in Maoist group in 2013, and he worked as a hard-core militia member in between 2013 and 2018 and later emerged as a Dalam member of the outfit in 2019. Lakshman was involved in three offences, including the exchange of fire with police and arson of a coffee pulping unit at G.K. Veedhi mandal in Vizag Agency.

Jyothi was carrying .303 rifle while in the outfit and participated in the killing of Vanthala Salu near G.K. Veedhi in 2018. She is involved in a few other offences such as exchange of fire with security forces and arson of a road laying machinery in G.K. Veedhi in 2018.

Both Lakshman and Jyothi were attracted by the revolutionary songs and influenced by some Maoists leaders to join the outfit.

Babujee said that the trio surrendered before the police citing that increased combing operations, death of their leaders in the recent encounters and also the will to lead a peaceful life. The trio will get benefits under the surrender policy. We have been appealing to the rebels to shun violence, and surrender said Babujee.
