Tollywood meets Jagan: gets nod to resume shootings

Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S Jagan Mohan Reddy has given permission to resume film shootings in the state from 15 July. On 9 June, he met a host of Tollywood celebrities, including Megastar Chiranjeevi, Akkineni Nagarjuna, and director S.S Rajamouli, and extended his support to the Telugu film industry.

The COVID-19 lockdown has halted film and television shootings and post-production works in the state. The shutting down of film theatres has only added to the woes of the film industry. Acknowledging the industry’s needs, Jagan told the Tollywood delegation to set up studios and other production facilities in Visakhapatnam city and assured them that the state government would extend its full support.

The delegation also included Dil Raju, Vijay Chander, Damodara Prasad, C. Kalyan, PVP, and D. Suresh Babu. During their meeting at the Chief Minister's residence on Tuesday, Jagan assured them that land would be provided in Vizag to set up studios and production facilities. The government has also agreed to provide land to build homes for celebrities who wish to settle in Vizag, minister Perni Nani said.

After the meeting, Chiranjeevi told mediapersons that the Chief Minister gave his permission to resume shootings in the state from 15 July and responded positively to issues related to Tollywood. He said Jagan has agreed to allot 300 acres in Visakhapatnam to Tollywood which was already allotted by former Chief Minister Y.S Rajasekhara Reddy. The land will be useful for constructing studios and setting up outdoor units, he said.
