Hyderabad: In a significant administrative reform aimed at improving urban policing, the Telangana government has reorganised the police administration in the Hyderabad metropolitan region, creating four Police Commissionerates and ordering transfers and postings of senior IPS officers.
The reorganisation follows the expansion of GHMC limits and the creation of the Future City, officials said.
Linked to Telangana Rising 2047 Vision
The restructuring is part of the Telangana Rising 2047 Vision Document, unveiled at the Telangana Rising Global Summit on December 9, which sets a roadmap for achieving a $3 trillion economy by 2047.
Under the vision, the State has been divided into Core Urban Region (CURE), PURE and RARE, each with region-specific development strategies. As part of this plan, 27 municipalities within the Outer Ring Road (ORR) were merged into the GHMC, which was reorganised into 12 zones, 60 circles and 300 wards. Other departments, including the police, are being restructured on similar lines.
Four Commissionerates after Reorganisation
Following the overhaul, policing in the Hyderabad region will now be handled by four commissionerates:
Hyderabad Commissionerate
Cyberabad Commissionerate (reorganised)
Malkajgiri Commissionerate (carved out of Rachakonda)
Future City Commissionerate (newly created)
Key locations such as the State Assembly, Secretariat, Begumpet, Shamshabad Airport and Budvel High Court have been brought under the Hyderabad Commissionerate.
Cyberabad to cover IT, Industrial Hubs
The Cyberabad Commissionerate will oversee major IT and industrial zones including Gachibowli, Financial District, Nanakramguda, Madhapur, Raidurg, Patancheru, Genome Valley, Ramachandrapuram and Ameenpur.
Malkajgiri formed From Rachakonda
The Rachakonda Commissionerate has been reorganised to create the Malkajgiri Commissionerate, which will include Keesara, Shamirpet, Quthbullapur and Kompally.
As part of the restructuring, Yadadri–Bhongir district has been removed from the commissionerate system and restored as an independent district police unit, headed by a Superintendent of Police.
New Commissionerate for Future City
A separate Future City Commissionerate has been created to cater to rapidly developing areas such as Chevella, Moinabad, Shankarpally, Maheshwaram and Ibrahimpatnam, among others.
Senior IPS Officers Posted
The government also issued orders transferring and posting senior IPS officers:
G. Sudheer Babu, IPS (2001), former CP, Rachakonda, has been appointed the first Commissioner of Police, Future City.
Avinash Mohanthy, IPS (2005), earlier CP, Cyberabad, has been posted as Commissioner of Police, Malkajgiri.
Dr. M. Ramesh, IPS (2005), previously Inspector General of Police (Provisioning & Logistics), has been appointed Commissioner of Police, Cyberabad.
Akshansh Yadav, IPS (2019) has been posted as Superintendent of Police, Yadadri–Bhongir district.
VC Sajjanar will continue as Police Commissioner of Hyderabad.
Orders Issued by Chief Secretary
The changes were notified through a government order issued on Monday, with formal proceedings released by Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao. Officials said the reorganisation would strengthen law and order, improve public service delivery and enhance crime control in the expanding urban region.
