Feast for birdwatchers, Flamingo festival to kickstart from January 3

Nellore: The three-day Flamingo Festival, a visual treat for passionate bird lovers, is going to start from January 3 in Sullurpeta Mandal of Andhra Pradesh. The festival is being organised annually to encourage tourism in Pulicat Lake where migratory birds stay for breeding for two-three months.

The district administration had arranged for the fest at the Government Junior College premises in Sullurpeta. Officials are making extensive arrangements for the event including safety for people interested in boating at BV Palem. They have deployed ace swimmers for the same. They are also insisting sightseers who prefer boating in the lake to wear life jackets.

Officials are also focusing on issues of sanitation, the arrangement of food stalls, barricading for managing crowds and are meet drinking water demand for people during the festival. AP Ministers Balineni Srinivasa Reddy, P Anil Kumar Yadav, M Goutham Reddy, M Srinivasa Rao, P Ramachandra Reddy, and other dignitaries will be attending the fest.

Local legislator K Sanjeevaiah is coordinating arrangements of the event. As per the festival plans, it would kick off with the traditional Sobha Yatra and the release of the balloon Gopuja. Cultural activities will adorn the festivities for all three days, attracting bird lovers who attend the fest. They are also arranging bird watching facility at Nelapattu, Atakanitippa and BV Palem from 10 am to 5 pm.
