Traffic police says, WhatsApp poster on new fines not by us

Hyderabad: The next time you jump a traffic light or talk on the cellphone while riding or driving, forgot to wear your seatbelt, don’t expect to be let off lightly. The long arm of the law has finally caught up and this involves paying some serious ‘huge’ fines.

The 2019 Motor Vehicle Act was recently passed in Lok Sabha, and Rajya Sabha and a 10 per cent hike have been made in all the penalties.

A WhatsApp message is being circulated in regards to the penalties wherein the face of Lalitha jeweller’s owner has been used. The picture is a collage of Lalitha Jewellers owner’s face with a dialogue written in Telugu which reads – “Dabbulu urike raavu” which means “Money doesn’t come just like that.”

Speaking to Newsmeter, inspector- E-Challan, M. Narsing Rao said, “The hike in the fines will come into effect from September 1, 2019. The department of traffic police Hyderabad hasn’t circulated any poster. Fake third parties have made the poster. The poster is nowhere related to the traffic police department.”

Offences such as drinking and driving now carry a fine of Rs 10,000 whereas driving without a license has a fine of Rs 5,000. The new Act also reduces the validity of a driving license from the earlier 20 years to 10 years and will come into effect from September 1, 2019.
