Trial for Hajipur serial rape case begins in Nalgonda district court

Hyderabad: The trial of Marri Srinivas Reddy, who allegedly kidnapped, raped and murdered three young girls in Hajipur village, started at a district court in Nalgonda on Monday. The trial for Hajipur serial rape case will first address the case of 12-year-old, the first victim who went missing since 2015.

The accused, an alleged serial rapist and killer, targeted young, lonely girls, and under the pretext of offering them a lift home, he would abduct and rape them. In April 2015, the accused provided a lift to the 12-year-old, who was returning from school, sexually assaulted and killed her.

In March 2019, he similarly raped and killed a 17-year-old girl who was returning from college. On April 22, 2019, Srinivas Reddy targeted a class X student who was returning from her school and tried to force himself on the girl. When the girl resisted, he threw her down a 50-feet dry well. He later got down the well and raped the dead girl. The accused, who was inebriated, left the girl’s school bag next to the well.

The girl’s bag was found near the well on the next day. This led the investigation team to her body. Further, the team identified Srinivas Reddy as the owner of the land and detained him. On enquiry, the accused also admitted to raping and burying the other two victims in the same well.

Fingerprints and DNA from bloodstains from the victims’ dress, and the accused’s mobile signal from the crime scene helped the investigation officials to crack the case, and thus link Marri Srinivas Reddy to the crimes.
