Tribal woman gang-raped in front of husband in Kurnool, kin protest

Kurnool: A tribal woman was allegedly gang-raped in front of her husband by four men near Jamminagar thanda under Velugodu police station limits in Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh.

Though the incident took place a few days ago, it came to light on Monday after the victim, along with her husband and relatives, staged a protest in front of Velugodu police station demanding that the cops register a case and nab the accused.

The protestors alleged that the police didn’t register a case even after three days the heinous crime happened. They alleged that the police were trying to divert the case to protect the accused. The protest led to some tense moments at the police station.

The victim, along with her husband, has been working as guards near Galeru bridge in Velugodu.

On Friday midnight, four persons, on two bikes, went to the victim’s locality. Two of the four attacked the woman’s husband while the remaining two assaulted the woman and raped her in front of her husband. Later, the two others also raped the woman and fled the spot.The gang allegedly threatened the woman at knife-point and reportedly raped the woman, taking turns.

On information about the protest by the tribals, the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) reached the place and assured them that they will register a case and nab the accused.

The police will form a team to identify and nab the accused. The victim and her husband will be shifted to the government hospital for medical tests, he said.
