Tribal woman gang-raped in Khammam district of Telangana

Hyderabad: In yet another inhumane incident, a married tribal woman was allegedly gang-raped by seven people who were in an inebriated condition in Khammam district of Telangana. The incident happened Friday night.

According to police, the victim, in her mid-30s and a mother of two children, belongs to Harya Thanda in Raghunathapalem Mandal. She along with her family lives in the outskirts of the village. On Friday night, when she was standing outside their house, two persons approached her, picked up a conversation. They later gagged her mouth and took her away from her home. When they took her to the fields away from the village, five others joined them. All of them raped the hapless woman.

Meanwhile, a resident of the same village, who noticed the first two persons taking her away, followed them to some distance and alerted police. By the time patrolling teams arrived at the spot, the accused noticed them and fled from the spot, leaving the victim in the open fields naked. They immediately informed the victim’s family and relatives. The entire village arrived at the spot. She was shifted to the hospital.

The victim’s family members alleged that Banoth Mohan, Banoth Upender, Angoth Kalyan, Banoth Chanti and Ajmeera Nageswar Rao from the same village and Banoth Ashok and B Sunil from the neighbouring Sukini Thanda were involved in the offence. All of them belong to the same community as that of the victim.

Police found that the accused had been planning to trap the victim for the past few days. On Friday night, when they noticed that she was alone and there was no public movement, they took advantage and kidnapped her.

A case was registered at Raghunathapalem police station and special teams have been deputed to nab the accused. While the investigation is underway, the victim’s family members and relatives staged a protest in front of Raghunathapalem police station, demanding strict action against the accused.
