Trio gang-rapes and murders widow in East Godavari

East Godavari: Barely two weeks after the Hyderabad vet’s death, a group raped and murdered a 50-year-old widow at I Polavaram Mandal in East Godavari of Andhra Pradesh. Though the incident took place on Monday, it became known on Tuesday after locals noticed the dead body and alerted the police. The victim was staying alone in her home, as her husband and son died a couple of years ago, while her daughter is residing in Hyderabad.

The victim was a Dhobhi by profession and the accused K Naga Babu, who is the neighbor of the victim, had also stolen Rs 80,000 cash from the victim’ s house after committing the crime.

District Superintendent of Police Adnan Nayeem Asmi along with clues team and dog squad visited the crime spot on Tuesday. Adnan Asmi said that they had formed a special group to seize the accused in the case. He added that they would solve the mystery behind the heinous crime within 24 hours.

Sources in the police said that three people from the G Vemavaram village are involved in the heinous crime. The police seized Nagababu, the prime accused in the case, and the cops have launched a search for the remaining two.

Expressing anguish over the incident, a local YSRCP leader allegedly beat the accused Nagababu, who reportedly confessed that he committed the crime alone. The preliminary investigation revealed that Nagababu and two others, under the influence of alcohol, entered the victim’s house, and then raped and murdered her. The trio strangled the woman to death.

The G Vemavaram villagers also attempted to attack Nagababu. The locals demanded the government to punish the accused without any delay to deter such heinous crimes. The police registered a case against the trio and shifted the dead body for autopsy.
