Hyderabad: A deputy Mayor, two corporators (ward members) from a municipal corporation in Telangana have been tested COVID positive. The trio are admitted to different corporate hospitals in Hyderabad. As a precautionary measure, 23 other corporators have been tested and results are awaited.

Inquiries revealed that, the virus spreader turned out to be deputy Mayor's brother-in-law, who is also a TRS party worker. All the four were engaged in distribution of raw-ration and also took part in the Telangana state formation day celebrations held on June 2nd.

Speaking to NewsMeter, a source said," The deputy Mayor's sister is also a corporator, the family resides in the same building. The virus spreader turned out to be the corporator's husband. It was post the state formation day celebrations, the man complained of fever and breathlessness. He approached a corporate hospital in Gachibowli, initially the doctors said he was suffering from pneumonia. However, his medical reports turned out to be COVID positive".

Test conducted on the two other corporators and the deputy Mayor turned out to be positive, as well. The trio are admitted to a private hospital in Secunderabad.

Meanwhile, the state reported 5 deaths and 92 new COVID cases on June 8th. The death toll climbs to 142, and 3294 positive cases (minus the discharged/cured patients).
