TRS MLA tested COVID +Ve admitted to private hospital

Hyderabad: A TRS MLA has been tested COVID-19 positive, this marks the first case among Telangana’s legislators. The man is among the 168 new Corona infected cases reported on June 12th. While eight more have succumbed to the virus in the state, taking the toll to 174.

For another straight day, Hyderabad reported a spurt in number of cases. Out of the total, 133 are from the GHMC limits, 6 from Medchal and Ranga Reddy, 4 in Sanga Reddy district. Atleast 14 districts in Telangana have active cases as on Friday.

Speaking to NewsMeter about the legislator, the district Deputy Commissioner of Police said, “The MLA lives in Hyderabad and only visits the district occasionally. He last visited his constituency on June 2nd to celebrate the Telangana state formation day. All precautions were taken during the occasion. His test results were revealed on Friday afternoon’. The MLA owns a chain of restaurants and few function halls in Hyderabad.

Earlier a former BJP MLA was tested positive and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Hyderabad.

Meanwhile the COVID toll in Banjara hills police station, climbed to 15 cases. Besides the 9 constables and one sub-inspector, another 5 have been tested COVID positive on Friday.

TRS Minister T Harish Rao has been placed under quarantined after his personal assistant is infected with coronavirus. The PA has been shifted to isolation center.

The government has blamed the increase in public movement to be the reason behind spurt in cases. “The lockdown has been relaxed since the 16th May 2020. It is being observed that there is a lot of mobility and movement of people from all walks of life and of all age groups. People are travelling across the state and some of them are not following the basic preventive measures like wearing a mask, maintaining safe physical distancing and overcrowding. There has been a surge in the cases since relaxation of lockdown” government said.
