Two dead in Jampanna vagu at Medaram Jatara

Warangal: Two devotees taking a holy dip in the Jampanna vagu at Medaram Jatara on Tuesday accidentally drowned. Police identified them as Battu Vinay of Marredpally in Secunderabad and Tama Vinod, a native of Subbaraopeta in Dummugudem under Bhadradri Kothagudem district. They arrived at the jatara along with their families to seek blessings of the tribal deities Sammakka and Saralamma.

As per tradition, they went to take the holy dip in the jampanna vagu before having darshan but drowned. The officials at Medaram made precautionary arrangements placing 300 swimmers along the stretch of the Jampanna vagu. They were also given life jackets and lifebuoys. Despite the arrangements, two persons met a watery grave.

Devotees called it inauspicious as the biennial fair is scheduled to begin on Thursday with the arrival of Saralamma.
