Two men detained by NIA in Tamil Nadu

Chennai: Two men have been detained by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). They carried out raids at two houses in Trichy and Thanjavur on Saturday morning.

According to sources, a three-member team of NIA from Coimbatore arrived at the residence of Sarbujeen (30) at Edamalaipatti Pudur, Trichy, and they also detained another man identified as Jaffer.

Sources said the Sarbujeen had allegedly liked and commented on Facebook posts and pages which supported terrorism. He has been taken into custody to find out if he had any links with the terrorist organisation.

Sarbujeen was to travel aboard for work on Saturday police are checking if he was carrying any parcel or message to be delivered and if he was part of any banned organisation.

The NIA seized a computer, laptop, passport, visa and some other gadgets from his house. The officials are also finding the details about his previous trips abroad.

It may be noted that this is the second raid being conducted in Trichy this year. Also, a person identified as Sheikh Alauddin at Keelavasal residing in Thanjavur has been detained. Preliminary investigations revealed that he was previously a member of SIMI, a banned Muslim students organisation.
