Two minor sisters kidnapped and raped in Vizag, accused Aravind arrested

Visakhapatnam: The Pendurthi police arrested 26-year-old A Aravind on Sunday for allegedly kidnapping and raping two sisters in Visakhapatnam.

While the actual crime happened in the first week of November, the full scale of the incident came to light on Sunday after the victims’ mother lodged a complaint against Aravind with the Pendurthi Police Station on Saturday night.

The accused, Aravind, who works as a driver, is the victims’ neighbour. Aravind and his wife are distant relatives of the girls, and the couple has no children.

The girls, both minors, stay with their mother in Pendurthi. Their mother separated from her husband, and she has been doing tailoring to feed her family. The two girls used to visit Aravind’s house regularly and go out with Aravind for snacks.

The police said that on November 3, Aravind took the girls in his car to Vijayawada and a few other places where he allegedly raped them. Since Aravind and two girls did not return home, the mother of the two girls, with support from the accused’s wife, lodged a complaint on November 7 regarding her missing kids.

The police registered a case and traced the two girls to Visakhapatnam on November 9. The police initially arrested Aravind for kidnapping the girls, as the victims didn’t reveal that the accused had raped them. The accused was later released from prison on bail, and he tried to take the girls again.

Noticing that Aravind may kidnap her daughters again, the mother enquired with her daughter as to what exactly happened. The girls then revealed that Aravind raped them and he threatened them with dire consequences if they revealed the incident to anyone. The mother, on Saturday night, lodged a complaint against Aravind for raping her daughters.

ACP (West Zone) G Swarupa Rani and her team registered a case against Aravind under Section 376 of IPC and various sections of POCSO Act and arrested him. The victims were sent to KG Hospital for medical tests.
