Undavalli opposes move to divert lands of Potti Sree Ramulu Telugu University

Rajahmundry: Former MP Undavalli Arun Kumar on Saturday wrote a letter to Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy urging him to cancel East Godavari Collector’s proposal for resumption of 20 acres of land of Potti Sree Ramulu Telugu University’s Nannaya Pranganam in Rajahmundry for housing purposes to the poor.

Undavalli recalled that at the time of its commencement the varsity boasted of 45 acres of land. Of that, 25 acres were taken up for hostels in 1993. Now the University campus is over 20 acres of land.

Undavalli pointed out that the Collector’s proposal is detrimental to public policy and Section 75 of AP. Reorganisation Act (Central Act6 of 2014). A Government Order stipulates that Collectors should not use lands belonging to educational institutions for house-site purposes. He said Potti Sree Ramulu Telugu University is included in the 10th schedule of Central Act 6 of 2014.

The University with five campuses located in both the States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh respectively. It is envisaged in the Act that two States have to agree for bifurcation of the university. If no agreement is reached within the specified period a notification from the Union Government is needed for diving d its campuses, Undavalli added.

Viewed from any angle, the proposal is against GO-510 and Section 75 of the A.P. Re organization Act.2014, he said.
