Unpaid for months, techie commits suicide in KPHB

Hyderabad: A 48-year-old man from Tamil Nadu who was working at an IT firm, Nexas, in Hyderabad allegedly committed suicide due to financial problems. He had not received his salary for the past few months as a result of the lockdown. Laxminarayana Shiva Kumar hanged himself from an electric pole near his home at KPHB colony on 29 May.

A resident of Tiruttani in Tiruvallur district in northern Tamil Nadu, Laxminarayana, along with his wife Karnam Yuvarani and two children, had moved to Hyderabad six years ago in search of work. They were living at Bhavyas Anandam Apartment in Nizampet, which falls under KPHB police station limits.

Laxminarayana worked as a sales coordinator at Villeman Macdowls in KPHB colony. But in 2018 the company shifted from Hyderabad. He then joined Nexas located at Errum Manzil in Hyderabad. His salary was less here compared to his old job and it was not sufficient to meet his day-to-day expenditures and feed his family. The nationwide lockdown had only added to his problems and he had not received salary for the past few months.

On Friday morning, Laxminarayana's family woke up and found that he was missing. His bike was also gone. His wife Yuvarani was searching for him in the nearby areas when she received a call from the KPHB police saying that her husband had hanged himself on an electrical pole near Shivalayam Temple in KPHB Colony. Yuvarani told the police that he was frustrated with their financial situation and killed himself. The KPHB police have registered a case and started an investigation.
