Upset over not making it to sisters home, maid jumps from Lanco Hills

Hyderabad: A 20-year-old maid allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the Lanco Hills Towers at Manikonda in Hyderabad on Wednesday morning.

Identified as Veeravallika, she jumped from the fifteenth floor of the building and died on the spot, police said.

It was found that she took the extreme step after her mother asked her to stay put and not return home until the lockdown is lifted.

According to police, the 20-year-old victim belongs to Nandigama in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh. She migrated to the city in January and joined as an in-house domestic help at the residence of Jayaprada.

A week ago, her elder sister Bhavani delivered a child at their home in Nandigama. Veeravallika asked her mother Indiramma that she wants to come home to see the child. Her mother, however, told her that it was not safe to travel during the lockdown.

Upset with this, she took the extreme step and jumped from the fifteenth floor on Wednesday morning.

Police sources said her father Ramu died four years ago. Her mother has been taking care of the family by working as a daily wage laborer. Raidurgam police have registered a case and started the investigation.
