Visakhapatnam: Vizag Cyber Crime Police on Wednesday arrested 35-year-old Noida-resident Sunny Kumar for committing car fraud through the classified ads site OLX. Sunny Kumar duped DVAN Raju, a resident of Visalakshi Nagar in Vizag city, to the tune of Rs 3.5 lakh.

As per reports, Sunny posted an image of a Hyundai Grand i10 bearing the registration number AP 31 CV 8889 on OLX. He pretended to sell the car at a low price of Rs 3.8 lakh. He added that he would accept advance payment from prospective customers.

Raju came across the advertisement and contacted the seller through mobile phone. When the seller asked him to pay an advance to confirm the deal, Raju replied that he wanted to see the vehicle before payment.

On March 14, 2019, Raju received a phone call from one Md Altaf. During the conversation, Altaf told Raju that the car is in a service centre at Gajuwaka and asked him to come there to verify the vehicle and to take it for a test drive.

Raju had gone to Gajuwaka on the same day, and after examining the vehicle deposited Rs 3.5 lakh in the account provided by the seller. Altaf informed Raju that he would deliver the car the next day after completing minor repair works.

The next day Raju tried to call Altaf and Sunny but failed to connect with the duo as both phones were switched off. Raju realised that he was cheated and approached the police. Inspector of Cyber Crime Police Station, V Gopinath said that they caught Altaf a few weeks ago. During the investigation, Altaf revealed that the main culprit in the case is Sunny.

“We nabbed Sunny Kumar on Wednesday and seized his bank account. We learnt that Sunny had duped many people through the same modus operandi. As soon as Sunny receives the payment, he would debit the amount and deactivate his SIM Card. Nabbing Sunny was difficult,” Gopinath said.
