Vanasthalipuram ACP shunted out for allegedly helping gang rape accused

Hyderabad: C Gandhi Narayana, Assistant Commissioner of Police Vanasthalipuram division of Rachakonda police commissioner, was shunted out of his post. He was transferred from his present posting with immediate effect and was directed to report to the DGP’s office. Telangana DGP M Mahendar Reddy issued orders to this effect on Wednesday. ACP Bhongir Traffic Division M Shankar is appointed as the in-charge for the post, until further orders.

According to sources, Gandhi Narayana had allegedly demanded money from the accused in a gang-rape case that was recently reported at Pahadi Shareef police limits under Vanasthalipuram division. He had allegedly assured the accused official favour in this case and demanded money for the same.

In the case, the police had arrested five people involved and a few who had mediated between the accused and the victim for a compromise, by paying her. After reports came out, an inquiry was ordered on the ACP, and a detailed report was submitted to the Rachakonda police commissioner. The same was also sent to the DGP for further action.

Taking a serious note of the allegations and the inquiry report, which indicated the ACP’s role in diluting the case, DGP has issued orders to transfer him. He is due for retirement in December.
