As many as 90 cows have died at a gaushala run by the Vijayawada Gosamrakshana Sangham at Kothuru Tadepalli near Vijayawada on Saturday.
It is alleged that the cows fell ill after consuming fodder and died later during the intervening night of Friday and Saturday. A few other are still battling for life.
Following a complaint was given by the gaushala organizers, police have registered a complaint and collected samples of the fodder and water available at the gaushala.
A post-mortem will be conducted on the dead cows to ascertain the cause of death further.
The gaushala houses many cows which have been handed over by the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC).
Back in 2015, as many as 21 cows had died of food poisoning at a gaushala in the city. The administration had then shifted the remaining cows to the gaushala in Kothuru Tadepalli.
