Vijayawada: Braving the scorching heat and the Corona pandemic, 225,463 village and ward volunteers delivered pensions to the doorsteps of the beneficiaries on the first day of the month.

So far, till 5 p.m, volunteers distributed pensions to 52.49 lakh pensioners, which is 93 per cent of the total number of beneficiaries. To prevent the spread of the virus, volunteers used photo-identification method instead of the biometric system. A separate app was used to take photos of the beneficiaries through geotagging.

Moreover, call centers have been set up in DRDA offices in the districts to monitor the pension distribution and ensure the process is hassle-free. Senior IAS officers monitored the entire process while simultaneously ensuring prevention steps were taken. Government officials monitoring the pension distribution process said all beneficiaries will receive the pension.

Volunteers distribute pension every month, however, during these trying times their efforts are laudable. They are also creating awareness among pensioners to stay safe at home and check them for symptoms of the virus.
