Vizag-based boxer Usha selected for Dhyan Chand Award

Visakhapatnam: The Boxing Federation of India, on 18 August, nominated Vizag-based boxer, Nagisetty Usha, for the Dhyan Chand Award. Usha has won two silver medals in the world boxing championship and a gold in the Asian championship.

The boxer is from Vizag city and is currently working in the diesel loco shed of East Coast Railway's Waltair Division. She coached the Indian senior women’s team and now coaches the Indian Railways' women’s team.

Mentored by Andhra’s best-known boxing coach I. Venkateswara Rao, Usha has won the senior national champion six times from 2004 to 2010. However, she missed 2012 London Olympics because of knee surgery and neck injury.

She has to her credit 11 international medals, including four gold, five silver, and two bronze, and 12 national medals - nine gold and three bronze.
