Vizag gas leak: YSRP leaders, ministers spend night in affected areas to boost confidence

Visakhapatnam: In an attempt to instill confidence among the victims of a gas leak, YSR Congress Party General Secretary V Vijaya Sai Reddy and three ministers M Srinivasa Rao, K Kannababu and Botsa Satyanarayana spent a night in the affected villages to bust myths and ward off fear.

Leaders spent Monday night at Venkatapuram, RR Venkatapuram, and BC Colony which were most affected by the styrene gas leak from LG Polymers.

"Life is limping back to normal in the affected areas. The situation is under control. There are no chances of a styrene gas leak from LG Polymers. I spent the whole night in the village and didn’t smell anything. I am saying that the entire area is safe,” said V Vijaya Sai Reddy on Tuesday morning.

Massive sanitization activities have been carried out in the affected villages. “There is no need to panic. We are appealing people, who are staying in the shelter zones, to return to their homes”, Vijaya Sai Reddy said.

A group of people is strongly demanding to shift or shutting down LG Polymers. “We will consider the opinions of various sections and the AP government will decide on the issue,” he said.

Some people who returned to their homes in RR Venkatapuram said they sensed a strong smell from the rice and other food grains in their homes. “Since the ministers spent a night, we will stay in our homes from Tuesday,” said the locals.
