Vizianagaram: New mother arrested for dumping baby boy in bushes

Vizianagaram: Pusapatirega police of Andhra Pradesh arrested a 20-year-old woman for abandoning her newborn baby boy post delivery on August 5.

The police also arrested the mother of the woman, for accompanied her to the deserted location, where the child was dumped in the bushes, located next to a tank in Rellivalasa village of Vizianagaram district.

According to the police, the woman is a student and stayed away for months in Vizianagaram Town since she for preparing for competitive examinations.

However, she fell in love with her distant relative in Vizianagaram and intended to marry once they settle in the life.

‘Since the woman stayed alone in Vizianagaram Town, her boyfriend would visit the her regularly resulting in her pregnancy. Later, the news was disclosed it to her mother but receive grave objections . On August 4 night, the woman given birth to a baby boy. In the wee hours on August 5, the mother-daughter duo abandoned the new born near the local tank in the outskirts of the village” police said.

With the help of the locals who noticed a baby, the infant was rescued by the locals on August 5 morning. The police along with the officials of Integrated Child Development Services and others shifted the newborn boy to Gosha Hospital in Vizianagaram Town for better medical care.

Investigation helped the police to trace the new mother. The accused has been booked under Sections 75 (punishment for cruelty to child) of the Juvenile Justice Act and 317 (Exposure and abandonment of child under twelve years by parents or person having care of it) of the Indian Penal Code.

The police will produce the baby boy before the Child Welfare Committee for further investigation.
