VST residents petition traffic department, demands end to illegal parking at Vidyanagar

Hyderabad: Illegal parking by a travel agency at Vidyanagar junction is giving a tough time to residents of VST and old Nallakunta.

Residents said the illegal parking is leading to constant traffic jams and hampering the smooth movement of pedestrians.

“The owners of the travel agency park their minibus and cars on the road. We are forced to drive through the small passage left on the road. There is always a logjam,” said S Ramalingam, resident of VST.

Residents said it has become difficult to travel during peak time. "We have complained to the traffic police, but the problem of illegal parking has not been resolved," said R Sree Kumar, resident of VST.

“We have filed a complaint on the traffic helpline and even tagged the department on Twitter. Later the traffic department removed the vehicles. The next day, however, erring operators again parked their vehicles on the road,” said S Ramalingam.

Talking to NewsMeter, Nallakunta traffic inspector Narendra Rao said because of the lockdown the travel agency doesn’t have the income to run these minibuses. “They don’t have drivers who can move these vehicles. They do not have money to pay for the parking space,” he said.

Rao said traffic police has generated challan against these agencies for violations. “We have told them to shift these vehicles to some other place,” he said.
