Hyderabad: In a major turn of events, a man has admitted to killing nine migrant workers in Warangal. According to sources, Sanjay Kumar told the police that he had drugged the nine people using sleeping pills and then dumped them in the well when they were unconscious.
On 22 May, the bodies of nine migrant workers, including six of a family, had been recovered from a well in Warangal district. Initially, the police had suspected the deaths were suicides, but postmortem reports revealed otherwise. Their investigations led them to another migrant worker Sanjay Kumar.
On Thursday, the owner of a gunny bag making unit discovered that some of his employees were missing. He started searching for them and found four bodies in an abandoned agricultural well. Five more bodies were recovered from the well during searches on Friday.
The victims were identified as Mohd Maqsood, his wife Nisha, son Shabaz, daughter Busra, and her three-year-old son who lived with her parents after she separated from her husband. The other three were workers who worked in the same unit.
Initial inquiries indicated a suicide pact but since the victims were from different families and communities, there were suspicions. The postmortem report also indicated that they were thrown into the well when they were still alive. The police also discovered that a party had been organised in the unit and all the members had attended. Two unknown men had also attended the party, inquiries revealed. The police arrested the two persons.
One of the men, Sanjay Kumar, admitted he had killed the nine people with his friend’s help. He said he had killed the family at the behest of Busra’s husband who lives in Delhi. The plan was to kill Maqsood’s family but he killed the other three for fear they may inform the police.
The police also found that Nisha and Busra were regularly in touch with Sanjay. The cops are trying to determine the motive behind the murders and find out how Sanjay was hired to execute the murder.
