Will voice concern against NEP: TRS MP Keshava Rao on being nominated as member of Court, UoH

Hyderabad: Dr K. Keshava Rao, Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament from Telangana, has been nominated by the Upper House of Parliament as a member of the Court of University of Hyderabad. The decision was taken on August 8th, in a Parliamentary Committee meeting.

Constituted under Section 19 of the University of Hyderabad Act 1974, the Court is the topmost decision-making body of the university. It overlooks the broad policies and programes of the University and suggests measures for development.

Ex-Secretary General of the Telangana Rashtra Samiti in 2014, Dr Rao currently serves as the Rajya Sabha MP from the party.

Speaking to NewsMeter about his nomination, Dr Rao said, "This gives me an opportunity to raise my concern over the National Education Policy unveiled recently. I am jovial about being considered as a part of the varsity in it's decision making body. The timing could not have been more apt, as the higher education aspect of NEP is controversial for me.”

The National Education Policy 2020 was passed by the Union Cabinet on July 29, and has suggested significant changes in the school-level and higher education of the country. It has suggested centralisation of all forms of higher education by handing over the supervision of it to a single body. The NEP also proposed introducing National Research Foundation which will guide researchers in going about with their thesis works on various topics.

In 2017, Dr K. Keshava Rao had served for one term in the Court of University of Hyderabad.
