Visakhapatnam: A woman along with her two teenage daughters tried to end their lives by consuming sanitiser in Vizag city after her husband died of COVID-19. The incident took place at Prakash Rao Peta under Maharani Peta police station limits in the city on 24 August.

The inspector of Maharani Peta police station, Somasekhar, said the woman's husband, P. Ramesh Kumar, who runs a medical store in the city was admitted to the hospital after he tested positive for COVID-19. He died on Sunday while he was availing treatment at the hospital.

When Ramesh’s wife P. Sivalakshmi and his two daughters, aged 19 and 14, came to know of his death they tried to end their lives by consuming sanitiser. The three have been admitted to King George Hospital in Vizag. While the two daughters are out of danger, the mother is in a stable condition and undergoing treatment, the police said.

It may be recalled that a few days ago, a 50-year-old woman along with her son (25) and daughter (23) had jumped into river Godavari near Kovvuru in West Godavari district after her husband died of COVID-19. The man succumbed to the virus at a private hospital in Rajahmundry in East Godavari on 16 August and was cremated by the civic authorities the next day.
