Hyderabad: An attempt to abandon a newborn boy at Gandhi Hospital in Secunderabad was foiled by the alert hospital staff late Wednesday night. The staff noticed the woman, Manjula, leaving the child and apprehended her. It was found that she was under depression due to family issues.

Manjula belonging to Kamareddy district was admitted to Gandhi Hospital on Sunday and she delivered a healthy boy on Tuesday. As she was alone in the hospital and her husband Ramesh was at home, she was upset and in a spur of moment, she decided to abandon the child and walk away. The hospital staff noticed this and alerted the security staff and the police. She admitted that she was doing so as she was depressed.

Police arrived at the hospital and shifted her to Chilkalguda police station, where she was questioned and counselled. After registering a case, the woman, along with her child, were handed over to Divya Disha NGO for further care.
