Woman falls to death while escaping stray dogs in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: In an incident highlighting the menace of stray dogs in the city and a clear example of how they horrify citizens, a 45-year-old woman fell down on the road and died, while trying to escape from a pack of stray dogs chasing her. The incident happened at Chaitanyapuri of Hyderabad. The woman identified as Ch Soma Laxmi was returning home from market when the incident happened. Though there were several incidents if stray dogs troubling citizens, especially those walking in the roads and during nights, people have escaped with injuries. But this is a first incident in the recent past, in which a woman has lost her life due to this menace.

Police said 45-year-old Soma Laxmi, a housewife is residing at Indira Nagar of Chaitanyapuri. On Friday morning, she was returning home on foot, after purchasing groceries. She was walking holding two bags in her both hands. Midway while passing through a kane near their house, a pack of dogs started barking at her. As she tried to pick up speed,they chased her. She ran for safety, but after running for few meters with heavy bags in her hands, she lost control and fell on the road. In the process, her head landed on the edge of the newly laid cement road and she became unconscious. She was rushed to Kamineni hospital and then shifted to Osmania hospital, where she succumbed in the early hours of Saturday. Police registered a case under section 174 of CrPC and started a probe.
