Woman gang-raped by trio in Guntur

Vijayawada: In another incident of crime against women in Andhra Pradesh, three men allegedly raped a 38-year-old woman near the Haailand area in Mangalagiri of Guntur district last Saturday.

DSP of north sub-division K. Durga Prasad said the incident took place on Saturday night and the victim lodged a complaint on Monday after consulting her family. The victim is from Guntur and works as a telecaller for a private educational service. On 14 February, Chaitanya offered her a lift on his motorbike. He told her he wanted to get a distance education certificate from her institute. The woman promised to help him and later they exchanged their phone numbers.

The police said that on 15 February Chaitanya contacted the woman and asked her whereabouts and later he met her in Vijayawada. Chaitanya told her that two of his friends, Ashirvadam and Nageswara Rao, also wanted certificates from her educational institute. Believing that she may get some good deal for her company, the woman accompanied Chaitanya to an isolated place near Haailand in Chinakakani village where the three men attacked her and later raped her.

The victim was hesitant to lodge a complaint initially. Later, after discussing it with her family she finally lodged a police complaint with Mangalagiri police station. A rape case has been registered against all the three accused. The police have formed a special team to arrest the three.
