Wont interfer in policy matters, SC dismisses petition on stalling secretariat demolition

Hyderabad: In a relief to the TRS government in Telangana, the Supreme Court on Friday dismissed the petition filed by Congress MLC T. Jeevan Reddy challenging the TS High Court verdict on the demolition of the old Secretariat buildings and construction of new buildings.

The apex court made it clear that the construction of Secretariat is the prerogative of the state government completely and it would not interfere in the policy matter.

The Supreme Court’s verdict on this is like a slap on the faces of those who are opposing the construction of a new Secretariat, observers pointed out.

However, the Secretariat demolition case is pending in the High Court.

Though the High Court gave green signal to demolish the Secretariat, the demolition works were stalled this week after petitions were filed against the government flouting the environmental norms, while taking up demolition works.

The High Court will hear the case today
