‘You have become prime minister over our dead body’: Owaisi slams Modi

Hyderabad: Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi launched a scathing attack against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Central government in the Lok Sabha on 11 March. The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief condemned the silence of the Central government regarding the Delhi violence.

Calling out the BJP-led Central government, Mr Owaisi said, “Why hasn’t the government officially announced that 60 people have died [in the riots]? Why hasn’t the honourable Home minister said that so many people have been arrested? I save you the responsibility, 11,00 Muslims are in detention, but where is the investigation?”

Mr Owaisi said, “Everyone who presided over this programme today has made their political palaces on my grave… You have become the Prime Minister on my dead body, shame on you. I hope the people of India will throw you out.”

The MP also demanded an all-party delegation to be sent to the riot areas to inquire about the situation. “I demand an all-party delegation to be sent to the area as it was sent to Gujarat. I demand a commission of enquiry by a sitting Supreme Court judge or High Court judge to probe into the facts. We have no faith in your SIT,” he said.

He further said the investigation regarding the murdered Intelligence officer Ankit Sharma should happen on the same level as the investigation regarding Faizan’s murder. It may be recalled that 23-year-old Faizan had succumbed to injuries when the Delhi police made him recite the national anthem while attacking him. Asserting that investigation for both the cases needs to happen at par, the Hyderabad MP said, “The murder of Ankit, the murder of Faizan, the murder of anyone has to be probed impartially. A life of Ankit cannot have more premium over a life of Faizan. These are both Indians, but the misfortune is that one was a Muslim, while the other was not a Muslim.”

He further alleged that the government is radicalising the Hindu community in the country. “You have radicalised your Hindu community, but please don’t radicalise us. We don’t want to join ISIS. We are fighting them. We will die saving this constitution… 17 crore Muslims will lay down their lives, if possible we will dig our graves here, but we will not allow this carnage to continue,” he said. Mr Owaisi also thanked the Sikh community for aiding Muslims during the Delhi violence and saving several families.
