Young farmer attempts self immolation in Vizag after land records goes missing

Vishakapatnam : A young farmer Polavarapu Nookaraju created a flutter by attempted to immolate himself in front of Tahsildar ( Mandal Revenue) office at S Rayavaram in Visakhapatnam district of after he found that the village revenue officer allegedly deleted a part of his inherited land from the revenue records.

The incident took place on Monday morning, it came to light on Tuesday. Reports said Polavarapu Kannayya of Peddapushpalam village of S Rayavaram owned 1.5 acres of farm land in the village. After his death the land was inherited by his son Polavarapu Ramana. The passbook was in the name of Kannayya. Ramana applied for change of passbook in his name recently.

To his shock, he found 36 cents of land was missing from the records and registered in the name of one P Appalakonda of same village.

Ramana’s two sons Eswara Rao and Nookaraju approached village revenue officer Esawara Rao for correction of the records but they were abused by him. Nookaraju immediately doused himself in diesel which he carried and tried to immolate self.

The local people rescued him and raised an alarm. Tahsildar K Satyanarayana came out of his chambers and spoke to Nookaraju assuring him to do justice.

To recall, a similar incident occurred in Telangana and it took the life of a woman Tahsildar. She was burnt alive in her office chambers at Abdullapurmet in Rangareddy district .The killer was an aggrieved tenant farmer who was reportedly upset with the Tahsildar for not settling a land dispute in his favour.The woman officer, identified as Ch Vijaya Reddy (37), was charred to death. She was a resident of Kothapet. The incident happened on November 4 , when Kurra Suresh, the attacker, walked into Vijaya Reddy's chamber in Abdullapurmet Tahsildar's office saying he has some work with her. He reportedly poured kerosene on the officer and himself before setting her ablaze.
