Youth held for raping 5-year-old

Hyderabad : The police arrested a 22-year-old youth who alleged raped a five-year-old girl in Vikarabad district on Monday. Police said that the accused identified as Nagesh had taken the girl to his home and then raped her. The incident occurred on Friday night, but came to light on Monday, when the parents lodged a complaint with the police. The incident took place just days after a rapist in Warangal district was sentenced to death and has raised concerns about the safety of girl children in the state.

According to the police, Nagesh and the victim belong to the same community and reside in Regondi village of Peddemul mandal. On Friday when the girl was playing outside her house, Nagesh who is her neighbour called her by offering her snacks. When she went inside, he raped her. The girl returned home, but fell sick the next day. She complained to her parents of pain in her private area and was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors opined that she was raped.

The parents asked the girl what happened and she told them about Nagesh. After confronting Nagesh, the parents lodged a complaint at the Peddemul police station on Monday.

Police arrested Nagesh and registered a case of rape along with charges under Pocso.
