YS Jagan drives away from KIA’s first car roll out launch

Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy had skipped the launch ceremony of the first car roll out ‘Seltos’ from the KIA Motor’s unit in Anantapur. In place of the Chief Minister, AP finance minister Buggana Rajendranath Reddy along with APIIC chairperson Roja attended the function on Thursday.

Ahead of the outreach investment programme on Friday, Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy, in a last-minute decision extended his New Delhi trip.

It may be recalled that when Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy was in the opposition, he had expressed concerns over the non-creation of jobs for the locals by the South Korean company. Recently, in the Assembly, YSRCP ministers claimed that KIA was initially invited by the then chief minister late Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and it materialised during the regime of N. Chandrababu Naidu, who took the credit.
Meanwhile, in just three weeks, KIA has recorded over 23,000 pre-bookings for Seltos. The cars will be delivered from August 22 onwards.

So far KIA Motors has invested $1.1 billion in developing the manufacturing plant that is spread over 530 acres in Anantapur district and has provided employment to 11,000 people. The plant’s production capacity will be enhanced to seven lakh units per annum from the present three lakh units.
