Nellore: Nellore rural MLA Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy was arrested on Sunday morning from his home for allegedly attacking the house of a woman Mandal Parishad Development Officer (MPDO) Sarala on Friday night. However, Mr Kotamreddy was granted bail within four hours.
The MPDO Sarala sat in protest in front of the Nellore rural police station on Friday night. With no alternative the government initiated, action to control the damage, as the news broke and become a sensation in the Telugu states.
The MPDO complained that the MLA Mr Kotamreddy asked for a pipeline to be sanctioned to the layout of his party leader by October 2. As she was busy in the inauguration of Village Secretariats, she could not complete the work.
Sarala complained to the police and said, “Mr Kotamreddy called me on Friday and abused me for not completing the work. In the evening Mr Kotamreddy came with his followers to my house at Kalluripalli and cut the electricity connection and damaged the pipelines. My mother was alone at home when the incident took place. She is terrified.”
After taking Sarala’s written complaint, the rural police initiated a preliminary inquiry. They filed a case against the MLA Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy and YSRC Nellore district spokesperson, B. Srikant Reddy. The police went to Mr Kotamreddy’s house in Sai Asraya apartment near the children’s park in Nellore, at midnight on Saturday. DSP Raghava Reddy held discussions with Mr Kotamreddy for more than one hour.
After which the police took Mr Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy into the custody early on Sunday morning. A large number of YSRC cadre gathered at the MLA’s apartment in his support. Huge police force was deputed at the YSRC MLA’s residence to avoid any untoward incidents. Later, a special judicial court granted him bail.
Denying the allegations made against him Mr Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy said, “I asked the MPDO to sanction a pipeline. Later, I ignored it. Neither did I go to her house, nor attacked it. The MPDO has made a false allegation against me.”
