Guntur: The sleuths of Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB), on Saturday, seized a water tanker smuggling non-duty paid liquor at Munagodu mandal in Amaravati region, Guntur district, Andhra Pradesh. The authorities seized around 10,000 NDP liquor bottles in the water tanker and arrested eight people in connection with the smuggling of liquor. The fraudsters are believed to be supplying illegal liquor from neighbouring Telangana to some areas in AP.

The arrested belong to Abburu village in Sattenapalli Mandal, Guntur district.

The driver and assistant driver of the water tanker told the officials that they were carrying water in the tanker. However, the officials who had some information about the liquor being transported in the water tanker searched the vehicle and recovered liquor bottles from it.

There were several instances of smugglers adopting innovative methods to transport the NDP liquor into the state from other states. The smugglers transported liquor from neighbouring states in ambulances, milk vehicles, vehicles carrying fish and a few other modes.

A few months ago, the officials seized 60 cartons of liquor bottles which were smuggled from Karnataka to Chintalapalem in Narasaraopet mandal. Over 128 liquor bottles being transported from Telangana to Macherla were seized in addition to 58 cartons of liquor bottles at Dodleru village in Guntur district.

A senior officer said that despite their efforts to curb illegal transportation of NDP liquor from bordering states, some people were adopting innovative methods to transport the liquor.
