Chittoor: A local court in Pileru of Chittoor district on Thursday sentenced 13 persons to two-day imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 1 000 each for violating prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC.

It is a first such incident wherein the court convicted people for defying the lockdown in Andhra Pradesh.

Pileru police said they had nabbed 13 persons, including youngsters and auto-rickshaw drivers for violating the prohibitory orders during the lockdown. “We produced the violators before the court which sentenced them two-day imprisonment”, police said.

In another incident, Palamaner police in Chittoor district registered a case against some people for circulating fake news about coronavirus on Facebook and WhatsApp. Police said some youngsters posted that one person was infected with coronavirus, but that turned out to be fake.
