Srikakulam: The Srikakulam police solved the mystery behind the death of 11-month-old baby girl, M. Hemasree (Ramyasree), whose body was found in a water tank of a house on September 4 at Turakasasanam village under Baruva police station in Srikakulam district.

The police investigation revealed that a 15-year-old girl (relative and neighbour of the baby) had killed the baby out of jealousy. She took the baby and dropped her in the water tank in her house.

Hemasree was the only daughter of M. Duryodhana and M. Kayva. Duryadhana has been living in Chennai for his livelihood while Kavya, along with her daughter, has been living with her in-laws at Turakasasanam village.

On September 4, the 15-year-old girl’s mother took the baby to her home to play with her. After some time, she came to Kavya and said that the baby was missing. Their two-hour search for Hemasree ended when they found her body in the Sintex water tank at the teen’s house.

Sub-Inspector G. Narayana Swami said that though they clearly understood it was a murder as baby can’t climb the terrace and then jump into the water tank, they could not get any clues to solve the case.

Our investigation has revealed that Kavya neighbour's daughter, the accused, used to visit Hemasree’s house and also used to steal money in small amounts and other things. On knowing this, Kavya stopped allowing the girl to visit their house. After this, the 15-year-old girl bore a grudge against Kavya and adding insult to the injury, even the mother of the accused girl, used to play a lot with the baby neglecting her daughter. As Hemasree drew more attention than her, the accused became jealous of the baby and decided to eliminate her.

On September 4, when Hemasree was sleeping in the accused girl’s house, she took and dropped her into the water tank in her house, Narayana Swami added.

The police apprehended the juvenile in the case and was shifted to the juvenile home in Vizag.
