Hyderabad: Tragedy befell Hyderabad when seven people including an 18 month old baby were killed when a speedy truck rammed into a pick-up van carrying migrant laborers back home, at Outer Ring Road on Friday night.

The incident occurred when around 30 persons, all migrants from Karnataka were on their way home.

According to police, the victims all belonging to bordering districts of Karnataka had migrated to Telangana for livelihood. They were all employed by DNR constructions for road laying works in Suryapet district.

Due to the lockdown, the employer had stopped the works leaving the laborers jobless. Left high and dry, they decided to return home. On Friday, they hired a pickup van and started the journey.

When the pickup van reached ORR in Pedda Golconda village of Shamshabad, a speedy truck loaded with Mangoes rammed into it leaving seven people dead on the spot. The deceased include an 18-month-old boy, a ten-year-old girl, four men, and a woman.

Cyberabad police teams along with ORR patrol teams rushed to the spot and shifted the injured persons to the hospital. Those who escaped unhurt were shifted to a function hall at Shamshabad for temporary shelter.

Police suspect the Gujarat bound truck’s driver was either speeding or could have dozed off leading to the accident. A case has been registered at Shamshabad police station and the bodies are being shifted for postmortem at Osmania Hospital.
