1908 revisited: Mayor Bonthu Rammohan, others offer prayers to calm Musi River
By Newsmeter Network Published on 22 Oct 2020 12:37 PM ISTHyderabad: Mayor Bonthu Rammohan and his deputy Baba Fasiuddin performed puja at Musi Puranapool Kaman by offering Pattuvastralu, Pasupu Kumkuma, Mukkupudaka and Nava Ratnalu in Silvar Chata on the bank of Musi River.
Mayor and his wife Sreedevi performed 'Apavarna Yaagam'. Minister for Home Mohd Mahamood Ali, Minister for Fisheries and Animal Husbandry Talasani Srinivas Yadav, and Corporators participated in the puja.
Deputy Mayor Baba Fasiuddin offered Chadar at Khadri Durgha nearby PuranaPool.
It may be recalled that on September 28, 1908, nearly 15000 people died in great Musi floods. Property worth crores were destroyed. The then Nizam Late Mir Ali Khanās minister Tiwari pundit suggested offering prayers at Musi River to pacify nature floods.
To this, King Mir Ali Khan offered prayers and performed Puja and offered ornaments, pearls, and offered a chadar at Musa Khadri Dargha.
Legend says that the tamarind tree saved nearly 200 people in 1908 floods. Mayor, his wife, and Deputy Mayor performed palabishekam at the Tamarind Tree. Mayor and Deputy Mayor said with the same spirit the GHMC Monsoon, DRF teams, Police personal and the health department performed duties.
Speaking on the occasion, Mayor said after a gap of 112 years, a similar flood situation occurred in Hyderabad. He said GHMC is trying its best to restore normalcy. He said thousands of people were rescued. Mayor also assured help to the affected people.
