24 accused convicted for attack on forest officials in Kothagudem
By Anurag Mallick Published on 23 Aug 2019 4:35 PM GMTKothagudem: In a case of an attack on forest officials Marrigudem beat of Ramavaram range in Kothagudem division in March 2015, the 24 accused were convicted at the 3rd Additional JFCM Court at Kothagudem.
The accused SK. Umar from Kothagudem district (secretary of CPI-ML-New democracy party) and 23 others was sentenced for 1 year with a fine of Rs 14,400/.
While the forest officials led by ACF Probationer A.Narasimha Reddy were on an advance operation in a 500 hectare retrieved forest land for planting in Marrigudem reserve forest, a mob of encroachers had attacked the forest officials with sticks, stones, and red chilli powder which resulted in severe injuries to 10 forest officials.
On a complaint filed by FRO Ramavaram, an FIR was filed at Chandrugonda police station and a charge sheet was filed by police in Kothagudem court.
Public Prosecutor Phani Kumar had presented the case arguments and was successful in getting the conviction.
DFO Kothagudem Ram Babu IFS has expressed his happiness over the judgment and hoped that this will act as a deterrent against any attacks on the forest officials on duty.
He has also issued a warning saying any encroachments in forests will be strictly dealt with and the offenders will be brought to book.
