465 new COVID cases in a single day gives AP top brass shivers

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh, on Friday, witnessed a new high in single-day Covid-19 cases with 465 being registered from across the state while four people died of the virus, taking the infection count to 7,961and death toll to 96.

Two deaths were reported from Krishna district while one death each was reported from Prakasam and Srikakulam districts. With this, Srikakulam registered its first Covid-19 death.

A total of 17,609 samples were tested in the last 24 hours from Thursday 9 am to Friday 9 am in the state and of them, 376 people tested positive.

As on June 19, Andhra Pradesh tested a total of 6,30,006 samples.

Another 70 people, who returned to parts of Andhra Pradesh from other states and 19 foreign returnees tested positive, taking the cumulative total of fresh cases in the state to 465 on Friday, the biggest single-day spike yet in the state. The previous highest was 425 cases recorded on June 18.

The 376 fresh cases take the total Covid-19 cases load in the state to 6,230. The number of foreign returnees who tested positive now stands at 308 while the cumulative positive cases from other states increased to 1,423.

On the other hand, 133 Covid-19 patients, including 51 who returned from other states, recovered from the virus and were discharged from hospitals across the state in the last 24 hours.

The total number of those who recovered from the infection in the state now stands at 3,905, including 793 people returning from other states and 47 foreign returnees. With this, the total active Covid-19 cases in the state stands at 3,960 (630 and 261 from other states and foreign returnees respectively).

On the Covid-19 toll front, Kurnool and Krishna districts reported 31 deaths each (highest in the state) followed by Guntur district with 10 deaths.

While Anantapur district witnessed six Covid-19 deaths, five deaths each were reported from Chittoor and East Godavari districts. Nellore district registered four deaths and Prakasam district reported two deaths.

Vizag and Srikakulam districts reported one death each. Vizianagaram, West Godavari and Kadapa haven’t reported any Covid-19 deaths so far.
