Hyderabad: A 64-year-old man, who owns a hardware firm in Punjagutta, Hyderabad, was arrested after he sexually harassed a woman who had offered to give birth to a child through surrogacy. Surappa Raju had earlier made an agreement with the victim to have a child through surrogacy, but he later demanded that she sleep with him and give birth to his child instead of through surrogacy.
According to the police, the victim is from Chilkalguda and worked as a cook. She got to know of this offer through an agent, identified as Noor. Surappa told the victim he wanted a child and agreed to pay her Rs. 4.50 lakh and also Rs. 10,000 till she delivers the child. On 11 February, he took the victim to Birla Mandir in the city to offer special prayers before beginning the surrogacy process. At the temple, he told her that instead of having a child through surrogacy, she can have sex with him and give birth to his child. He told her that the child would be his own and also offered to pay an additional Rs. 50,000.
At the moment, she agreed to his proposal out of fear. She returned home and did not go back to Surappa’s home. As there was no response from her, he started calling her continuously, abused and threatened her to accept his proposal and also warned her of dire consequences. Two days ago she informed her husband and along with him lodged a complaint with Punjagutta police station on Tuesday.
Punjagutta police have registered a case against Surappa under Sections 354(A) and 506 of the IPC and arrested him on 20 February.
Inquiries revealed that Surappa has three children. All of them are married, settled, and their children are also in their teens. But he still wanted another child. As his wife has also become old and unable to bear children, he thought of this idea and lured the victim.
